New Functionality
With each new release of FME, there's always something great being added to FME Workbench.
Transformer Upgrades:Upgrade workspace transformers in 3 easy steps:
1:Browse the Navigator window for a handy listing of all transformers that are out of date:
2:Right-click a transformer on the canvas to choose the upgrade option:
3:Set any new parameters, and find out a list of what's changed in this newer version:
One-Click Inspect:The pop-up menu on a feature type now includes an option to inspect data. This option opens the data directly in the Data Inspector. There's no need to fill in any dialogs - and this includes database formats too!
Presentation Mode:Add this to your toolbar and you have the perfect tool for presenting a workspace;one that lets you flip between bookmarks, zooming to fit that bookmark onto the screen each time.
Tree Parameters:Create user parameters that use a tree structure:
...and use this same tree structure in many other places (such as SQL table lists, attribute lists, and XML element lists)
Mark Location:In the Data Inspector rather than Workbench, this new functionality lets you mark positions on the screen
Look on the toolbar for more options for styling marked locations:
WMS Background Maps:While we're on the subject of the Data Inspector, it's now possible to use WMS data as a source for background maps:
Updated Functionality
While new items are added to Workbench, plenty of other features are getting refreshed or upgraded.Let's see what's new and improved in 2016.
Entire Interface:In case you didn't notice - how could you not - the entire FME interface has been refreshed for 2016.In particular there are a new set of 'flat' icons we like a lot, and the color of everything has been updated and enhanced specifically to help users with color vision deficiencies.
Fanouts:Check out both the feature type and dataset fanout in FME2016.Both have been given a new look and feel that's more consistent with attribute handling in other tools:
Also, both now allow the fanout to be defined by an expression or user parameter, not just an attribute!
Run Options:Instead of two or three different run buttons, there is now a single run button, and prompt/inspection/breakpoints are three toggle options - meaning you can apply any combination to your workspace:
Performance:By upgrading the underlying technologies that FME runs upon, we've squeezed out a whole lot more performance in FME2016.In particular the 64-bit version of FME is much improved and makes way better use of available memory resources.
In fact, the only drawback we found is that there's no longer time to go get a coffee while our workspaces run :-(
