In general, the schema for a dynamic translation will either come from the source dataset itself,or from a different dataset (such as a shapefile or database table).Another option is to use a lookup table. This table contains the schema definition and is usually stored in a text file or spreadsheet.A benefit of this type of resource is that the content can be maintained outside of the FME environment and can be updated easily.
In this scenario,a series of Features Types representing city data needs to be processed from an Autodesk SDF database, into a series of new shapefiles for production. The desired schema is different from the input data and has been designed in a spreadsheet. For example:
The author has listed a series of feature types, attributes, and geometry types that define the output schema. The spreadsheet or table must have one row for each attribute definition with fields that provide the following information:
To utilize the lookup table,The Schema (From Table) Reader is added as a Workspace Resource with the lookup table selected as the Dataset:
In the parameters dialog for this Reader, specify which fields in the table represent which parts of the schema:
The table will then be loaded as a Workspace Resource:
The lookup table can then be used as the output schema source in the Dynamic Writer:
The completed workspace will have attributes mapped to the outgoing schema and should look like this:
